There are many ways to enjoy prosciutto. In Italy, each region has its own.

A popular way to eat and enjoy prosciutto, in Emilia region, is with “gnocco fritto” which is a square shaped fried and think piece of bread that’s usually paired with a glass of local red wine like Lambrusco.

On the other hand, in Venice, you can find “cicchetti”, these are small appetizers featuring prosciutto. Usually served in bacari – typical taverns in the city –  which are not very known to tourists.

In Umbria one of the many specialties is “Torta al testo” which is a flatbread traditionally filled with dry-cured prosciutto and spinach. The name comes from the pan on which it is made, in fact, ‘Testo’ is a type of pan originally made of stone that you need to heat and use to cook this type of bread.

If we go more towards the south, specifically in Naples, we can find a traditional recipe which is panini napoletani, that translates into Naples-sandwiches. They are made of small pieces of salted brioche and stuffed with sliced ​​salami. Super tasty!
