Healthy foods for fitness are incredibly important and crucial for the proper rigeneration of the muscle tissue and in order to have the perfect energy to train.
Micro and Macronutrients
A healthy and varied diet is able to provide all the macro and microelements essential for the proper functioning of the body. There are also some micronutrients that are particularly important in a period like this of the Covid pandemic. We are talking about vitamin C, vitamin D and omega 3 fatty acids, which improve the state of health and, it has been observed, these are also useful in preventing the complications of Covid. This means eating lots of vegetables, fruit, fish, extra virgin olive oil and oily dried fruit, even every day.
Macronutrients: fats, proteins and carbohydrates
The portions of carbohydrates should be a little higher than that of fats and proteins, which must instead be similar. It is good to choose whole carbohydrates with a low glycemic load. Proteins are fine both of animal origin and of vegetable origin, but especially in the diet of a sportsman, it is good to privilege those of noble animal origin. Without forgetting that legumes are a source of carbohydrates rather than proteins.
Carbs with Gluten
There is no reason why people who are not celiac should eliminate gluten. That said, common sense is always needed: if I eat gluten-containing foods every day, I could probably find myself having some difficulties. Eat foods like pasta and bread in moderation.
Saturated Fats
There is no food that shoud be completely eliminated in a healthy and balanced diet. Unsaturated and polyunsaturated fats such as omega 3 from extra virgin olive oil and dried fruit are certainly to be preferred, but saturated fats, such as those from cheese and eggs, also play an important role. They are precursors of cholesterol, but it should not be forgotten that cholesterol, among other things, is also a precursor of testosterone.
Healthy foods for fitness are therfore made up of a vey balanced and well proportioned diet. We have to start looking at food as fuel or the body instead of pleasure for the mouth. It can be both, but conciously choosing healthy foods is what allows sportsman to perform at their best!
